L131. Limerick.
To write a limerick,
come up with a 5-line poem
where the first, second, and
fifth line rhyme with each
other and the third and fourth
line rhyme with each other.
Also, make sure the first,
second, and fifth line have 8-9
syllables and
the third and fourth line have
5-6 syllables.
My method is to work backwards and have a theme. I select a word with a common suffix, that is a word with -sh, -ng or a -y ending. I thought about the approaching winter (Southern Hemisphere) and bundled up in blankets to stay warm and if I did not wash I would pong. Pong, is a word that means to smell bad, an unpleasant odour, and Body Odour from not washing would be described as a pong. He prongs, means: he has a bad smell.
I used words with a different suffix in lines 3,4 that rhymed, and also opposite to the adjectives used in lines 1 and 2. Mainly, "pong" & "posh", posh, means: elegance, fine wine and music, opulent, nice.
It is important to learn words, learn examples of prefix and suffix, then learn to combine them in rhymes.
